The Premier League and Football League have suspended

all their matches for this weekend, despite the government allowing

the game to continue after the Queen's death.

After lengthy deliberations on Thursday night and early Friday morning,

the decision was taken as the country entered its official period of mourning.

The decision will add tension to an already busy schedule

as the opening part of the season will have to be

shortened due to the November Football World Cup final.

Professional football in Scotland has also been canceled for this weekend.

Next weekend's Premier League and English Football League are in

jeopardy over how to safely stage them on the night of the Queen's burial.
