They began their deliberations soon after both the sides made their final arguments.
"It's a window into the heart and mind of America's favorite pirate," said Mr Rottenborn. "This is the real Johnny Depp."
"Mr Depp experienced persistent verbal, physical and emotional abuse by Ms Heard," she said.
Friday's arguments resonated heavily over the past six weeks of trial, where both sides presented warring accounts of the former couple's five-year relationship.
Ms Heard and her lawyers told the court about an indecisive and cruel Mr Depp who was addicted to drugs and alcohol.
The case stems from a 2018 op-ed written by Ms. Heard, in which she described a "public figure with domestic abuse".

Ms. Hurd's lawyer, Mr. Rottenborn, asked the jury to focus on Ms. Heard's words in the story when making its decision.
They said. "You'd think Ms. Heard would have abused Mr. Depp". They said. "If Amber is abused even once, she wins".
Mr Depp arrived on Friday morning and was greeted by hundreds of shouting fans, as was the case for most days of the trial.
