The mysterious benching of Malcolm Butler at Super Bowl
LII is still not fully explained, even four years later.
In fact, Edelman, who missed that game and throughout the 2017 season
with a torn ACL, wasn't even on edge during that game.
Butler's benching was the biggest story of that game, his final game in Patriots uniform.
After signing free agency with the Tennessee Titans,
Butler spent three seasons in Nashville before moving to Arizona. However,
he retired from football before the 2021 season, never suing for the Cardinals.
Butler eventually came out of retirement to sign with the Patriots this year,
but he was placed on injured reserve and eventually released last week.
