During the press conference, Police Chief Kelly Gordon confirmed that the man killed was one of his officers.

"It's a tragedy for his family but it's also a tragedy for the Monterey Park Police Department."

There are only 76 sworn officers in the police department and Gordon said the loss will be deeply felt by all.
